MANJARI NEHRU KAUL, J. (Oral) The instant petition has been filed for issuance of direction to respondents No. 2 and 3 to protect the life and liberty of the petitioners at the hands of private respondents.

It is contended that the petitioners are major and have solemnized their marriage on 17.04.2021 against the wishes of the private respondents who have been threatening them with dire consequences. Learned counsel submits that a representation dated 17.04.2021 (Annexure P5) was made to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Patiala (respondent No.2) by the petitioners seeking protection of their life and liberty. However, no action has been taken on the said representation so far. Learned counsel in support of his submissions with respect to the representation (Annexure P5) made to respondent No.2 has sent a copy of the postal receipt through Whatsapp.

In view of the above, the present petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2-Senior Superintendent of Police, Patiala, to look into the representation dated 17.04.2021 (Annexure P5) submitted by the petitioners qua threat perception, if any, and take necessary steps, if any required, in accordance with law, to ensure that the life and liberty of the petitioners is not jeopardized at the hands of the private respondents. However, this direction will not validate the marriage said to have taken place between the parties and will have no effect on any civil or criminal action, which could be initiated in the matter in accordance with law.
