Petitioners seek protection of their life and liberty as they apprehend danger at the hands of respondents No.4 to 6 and other relatives because they have married each other on 09.06.2020 against the wishes of the said respondents.

Learned counsel for the petitioners submits that he has identified the petitioners as per the documents attached. It is further submitted that they have solemnized marriage with each other out of their own free will and volition and that this is their first marriage. It is contended that the petitioners are major, their dates of birth being 24.06.1993 and 17.03.1997, respectively. True copies of Aadhar Cards of both the petitioners have been appended with the petition as Annexures P1 and P2, respectively. A copy of the Marriage Certificate and the photographs of the marriage are on record as Annexures P3 and P4, respectively. CRWP No.3712 of 2020(O&M) [2] dated 09.06.2020 (Annexure P5) to respondent No.2 i.e., the Senior Superintendent of Police, SAS Nagar, Mohali for redressal of their grievance but no action has been taken thereon.

Notice of motion to Advocate General, Punjab. On the asking of the Court, Ms. Bhavna Gupta, DAG, Punjab accepts notice on behalf of respondents No.1 to 3. Advance copy of the petition stands served.

Without commenting upon the age of the petitioners or the validity of their marriage or the validity and genuineness of the certificates/documents appended with the petition, respondent No.2 - Senior Superintendent of Police, SAS Nagar, Mohali is directed to look into representation dated 09.06.2020 submitted by the petitioners and take appropriate action if any/as may be required, keeping in view the threat perception to the petitioners. It is, however, made clear that this order shall have no effect on the validity of the alleged marriage of the petitioners and neither will any other civil or criminal proceedings initiated against the petitioners be barred due to this order.

Petition is disposed of accordingly.
