Mr. Arun Luthra, Deputy Advocate General, Punjab. MANJARI NEHRU KAUL, J. (ORAL) Learned State counsel, on instructions, has informed the Court that the examination-in-chief of the complainant stands recorded, however, the case is now fixed for 28.02.2024 for his cross-examination. It has, on instructions, also been submitted that the petitioner is a man of criminal antecedents as he is involved in seven other criminal cases of similar nature. In the circumstances, learned counsel for the petitioner does not press the instant petition and prays for withdrawal of the same, however, with a prayer that since the petitioner has been in custody for 3 years and 8 months, the trial Court be directed to expedite the trial.

In view of the prayer made, the trial Court shall make earnest efforts to expedite the trial and conclude it expeditiously within the next five months.
