(ORAL) The petition has been taken for hearing through video conference due to Covid-19 pandemic.

In the present contempt petition, the grievance which is being raised by the petitioners is that the order dated 17.04.2018 passed by this Court in CWP-7268-2018 titled as Jarnail Singh and others Vs. State of Punjab and others, granting the status quo, is being willfully & intentionally violated by the respondents as construction is being done at the site in dispute, making themselves liable to be proceeded against under the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971.

Ms. Deepali Puri Sandhu, Additional Advocate General, Punjab, who has joined the proceedings through video conference, keeping in view the service of advance copy of petition, accepts notice on behalf of respondent-State.

COCP-1259-2020 -2Learned State counsel submits that she has received a communication from the Deputy Commission, Gurdaspur through SDM, Kalanaur, District Gurdaspur that no renovation work has been done so far at the site where the Hon'ble High Court has directed the status quo and in future as well no work shall be executed on the land where the Hon'ble High Court has ordered the status quo. Learned State counsel argues that order dated 17.04.2018 passed by this Court in CWP-7268-2018 will be complied with in its letter and spirit in future as well.

Learned counsel for the petitioners submits that in view the statement given by learned State counsel, she does not press the present contempt petition any further. Learned counsel for the petitioners further submits that liberty be granted to the petitioners to approach this Court again, in case, the respondents try to violate the order passed by this Court.

In case, any violation of the order passed by this Court is done by the respondents, petitioners will be at liberty to approach this Court for the rederessal of the grievance.

Present petition is disposed of having not pressed keeping in view the statement recorded above on behalf of the respondents. The respondents will be bound by their statement recorded above.
