Prayer in this writ petition filed by the petitioners under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India, is for issuance of a writ in the nature of mandamus, directing the respondents to grant old age allowances/additional pension from the date of entering in 65, 70, 75, 80 and 85 years of age (i.e. from the first day of entering into the 65 years of age) not from the date when they have completed the age of 65, 70, 75, 80 and 85 years (i.e. from the next day of completion of 65 years of age) along with arrears of pension and 18% p.a. interest on delayed payment of pensionary benefits.

Learned counsel for the petitioners, at the very outset, confines his prayer for deciding legal notice dated 25.11.2023 (Annexure P-6). Mr. Rajesh Sehgal, Addl. A.G., Punjab, accepts notice on behalf of respondents No.1 and 2 whereas Ms. Shazia K. Singh, Advocate has accepted notice on behalf of respondents No.3 to 5 and have no objection to the innocuous prayer made by learned counsel for the petitioners.

I have heard learned counsel for the parties and have gone through the record of the case.

Without going into the merits of the case at this stage, the present petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.3 to decide legal notice dated 25.11.2023 (Annexure P-6), submitted by the petitioners expeditiously, by passing a speaking order, preferably within a period of 04 months from the date of receipt of certified copy of this order.
