JASGURPREET SINGH PURI , J. (ORAL ) Petitioner No.1 is stated to be 19 years of age and is not of marriageable age. They claim to have married against the wishes of their family members. Apprehending threat to their life and liberty, they have filed the present petition for protection.

Petitioners claim to have submitted a representation (Annexure P-5) dated 1.06.2021, in this regard to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Sangrur.

The petitioners have placed on record the copies of their Aadhar Cards (Annexures P-1 and P-2) as proof of their age and certificate (Annexure P-3) as well as photographs (Annexure P-4) regarding performance of marriage.

This petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.3 - the Station House Officer - SHO, Police Station, City Sunam, District Sangrur, that representation, if any, filed seeking protection of life and liberty, be got looked into and contents thereof be duly verified and if necessary, requisite steps be taken, strictly in accordance with law for grant of protection of life and liberty to the petitioners. However, this order would not create an impediment in taking recourse to any provision of law by the police authorities under the Child Marriage Restraint Act or any other law. June 9, 2021.
