(ORAL) Both the petitioners have joined hands to prefer this petition with a prayer for the issuance of direction to respondents No.2 and 3 to protect their life and liberty as they apprehend threat to the same at the hands of respondents No.4 to 11 because they (petitioners) have solemnized their marriage against the wishes of these respondents. They have also prayed for directing the said official respondents to look into the representation (Annexure P-3) as moved by them in this regard. Notice of motion to respondents No.1 to 3 only. Ms. Samina Dhir, Deputy Advocate General, Punjab, who has joined the proceedings on behalf of respondents No.1 to 3 in this case, in pursuance of the copies of this petition having been sent to the

respondent-State in advance, accepts the notice on behalf of these respondents.

Heard.

It is pertinent to mention here that the petitioners have moved the said representation (Annexure P-3) to respondents No.3 (with its copy to respondent No.2) with the prayer for taking action against the culprits and also to supply the copy of the medical report to them (petitioners) besides praying therein for the protection of their life and liberty.

However, learned counsel for the petitioners restricts his prayer to the issuance of a direction to respondents No.2 and 3 to look into and take appropriate action on the said representation (Annexure P-3) to the extent of the prayer of the petitioners qua the protection of their life and liberty and he specifically submits that he does not press for the grant of the above-mentioned remaining relief as claimed by the petitioners in the said representation because they (petitioners) intend to resort to the appropriate alternative and efficacious legal remedy, as may be permissible to them, in respect thereof.

Learned State counsel has no objection for the same. Keeping in view the above-discussed limited prayer as made by learned counsel for the petitioners and without commenting or expressing any opinion on the merits of the matter in hand, respondent No.2-Senior Superintendent of Police, Ludhiana and respondent No.3-

Station House Officer, Police Station Jodhan, District Ludhiana, are hereby directed to look into the said representation of the petitioners (Annexure P-3) only to the extent so far as it relates to their prayer for protection of their life and liberty and if it is found that the petitioners genuinely deserve any protection, then to take appropriate action in accordance with law.
