The present petition has been filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India for issuance of a writ in the nature of mandamus directing respondents No.1 to 3 to protect the life and liberty of petitioners at the hands of respondents No.4 to 7. 2.

Learned counsel for the petitioners contends that the petitioners, both consenting adults, decided to live together. The petitioner No.2 is already married with respondent No.7 but on account of the matrimonial dispute, she has been thrown out of the matrimonial home. Despite efforts to explain that they are well-settled, mature individuals, their families continued to oppose their live-in relationship and the said relationship is not acceptable to respondents No.4 to 7 and they are threatening the petitioners with dire consequences. The petitioners apprehend danger to their life and liberty from respondents No.4 to 7 and in this regard, submitted a representation dated MOHD YAKUB 2025.04.09 14:00 I attest to the accuracy and authenticity of this document Punjab & Haryana High Court at Chandigarh

CRWP-3625-2025 25.03.2025 (Annexure P-3) to respondents No.2 and 3 as well as to Senior Superintendent of Police, Sangrur, but no action has been taken so far.

Mr. Subhash Godara, Addl. A.G., Punjab, who is present in Court, accepts notice for the official respondents. Learned counsel for the petitioners is directed to supply a copy of complete paper book to learned State counsel during course of the day. 5.

Without commenting on the relationship of the petitioners and entering upon an exercise to evaluate the evidentiary value of the documents placed on the file, I dispose of this petition with direction to respondent No.2 to decide the representation of the petitioners (Annexure P-3) within a period of one week from the date of receipt of a copy of this order and grant them protection, if there is any threat to their life and liberty in accordance with law. 6.

It is made clear that this order shall not be taken to protect the petitioners from legal action for violation of law, if any committed by them.
