MANJARI NEHRU KAUL, J. (Oral) The instant petition under Article 226/227 of the Constitution of India has been filed for issuance of direction to respondents No. 1 to 3 to protect the life and liberty of the petitioners from the hands of private respondents No. 4 and 5.

It is contended that the petitioners are major and have solemnized their marriage on 12.07.2020 against the wishes of the private respondents No. 4 and 5 who have been threatening them with dire consequences. Soon after their marriage, the petitioners submitted a representation dated 12.07.2020 (Annexure P5) to respondent No.2 i.e. the Superintendent of Police, Hoshiarpur for redressal of their grievance but no action has been taken thereon so far. Learned counsel submits that he would be satisfied if a direction is issued to the respondents for taking a RUPINDER KAUR 2020.07.15 13:20 I attest to the accuracy and integrity of this document decision on the representation (Annexure P-5) submitted by the petitioners.

CRWP-4800-2020 [ 2 ] Keeping in view the limited prayer addressed by the petitioners, the Superintendent of Police, Hoshiarpur (respondent No.2) is directed to consider and decide the representation dated 12.07.2020 (Annexure P5) of the petitioners and take appropriate action keeping in view the alleged threat perception, if any.

It is, however, made clear that this order shall have no effect on the validity of the alleged marriage of the petitioners and neither will any other civil or criminal proceedings initiated against the petitioners be barred due to this order.

Petition is disposed of accordingly.
