The instant petition has been filed for directing the official respondents to protect the life and liberty of the petitioner from the hands of private respondent No.5, who has been operating in District Hoshiarpur after having illegally moved to USA and extending threats to the peoples. 2.

A status report by way of affidavit dated 23.04.2026 of Mr. Sukhpal Singh, PPS, Dy. Superintendent of Police, Sub-Division Tanda, District Hoshiarpur on behalf of respondent(s)-State. Copy thereof has been furnished to the learned counsel for the petitioner. The relevant extract thereof reads thus:- "4. That it is submitted that the petitioner submitted an application 939-PD dated 17.02.2026 (Annexure P-4) to SSP, Hoshiarpur regarding extortion of money and regarding giving threats to kill on mobile phone. The said application was marked for inquiry to SHO, P.S. Tanda, District Hoshiarpur. Then the SHO, P.S. Tanda, District Hoshiarpur marked the MANGAL SINGH 2026.04.27 14:00 I attest to the accuracy and integrity of this document

CRWP-4284-2026 (O&M) inquiry of the said application to the Incharge Police Post Basti Bohran, P.S. Tanda, District Hoshiarpur. During the investigation, the petitioner gave statement that FIR No.92 dated 21.04.2026 u/s 308 (5), 351(3), 3(5) BNS was registered at P.S. Tanda, District Hoshiarpur against respondent no.5 and * 668 others on his statement and as such he does not want to get done any action upon his above said application and his application may be filed. On the Oasis of statement of petitioner, the application of the petitioner was recommended to be filed by the Incharge, Police Post Basti Bohram, District Hoshiarpur.

Learned counsel appearing on behalf of the petitioner contends that even though the FIR has been registered against respondent No.5, however, since the said respondent is now in USA and no request for extradition has been sent so far, hence, the petitioner still has valid apprehensions with respect to his security.

The present petition is accordingly disposed of with a direction to respondent No.3-Senior Superintendent of Police, Hoshiarpur, to look in the pending grievance of the petitioner with respect to the threat expressed by him. In the event, on assessment of threat perception and the gravity thereof, the officials find that certain measures are required to be taken for ensuring safety and security of the petitioner, appropriate steps be taken thereafter. Let a decision in this regard be taken by the respondents within a period of 03 months of receipt of a certified copy of this order. (VINOD S.
