The petitioners have approached this Court seeking issuance of directions to official respondents to protect their life and liberty as they apprehend threat to the same at the hands of private respondents No.4 and 5. 2.

Notice of motion.

On asking of the Court, Mr. V.G. Jauhar, Sr. DAG, Punjab, upon whom an advance copy of petition had already been served, accepts notice on behalf of the respondent-State.

Learned counsel for the petitioners submits that both the petitioners are major though not of marriageable age. It has been submitted that since the private respondents were pressurizing petitioner No.2 to forcibly marry her to a boy of their choice, the petitioner No.2 eloped with respondent No.1 and PANKAJ KAKKAR 2021.06.29 19:10 I attest to the accuracy and integrity of this document

( 2 ) CRWP-5866-2021 (O&M) she started living with petitioner No.1 in a 'live-in' relationship which is not acceptable to the private respondents, who have been threatening to cause harm to the petitioners.

I have heard the learned counsel for the petitioners as well as the learned State counsel.

Without commenting anything as regards the veracity of averments made in the petition, the petition is disposed off with a direction to respondent No.2Senior Superintendent of Police, Patiala, District Patiala to get the representation dated 22.6.2021 (Annexure P-3) examined expeditiously in accordance with law. In case, it is found that there is any genuine threat to the life and liberty of the petitioners, then necessary steps as warranted under law shall be taken so as to ensure that no harm is caused to the petitioners. 7.

A copy of this order alongwith copy of representation dated 22.6.2021 (Annexure P-3) be sent to respondent No.2-Senior Superintendent of Police, Patiala, District Patiala for necessary compliance. 8.

It is, however, clarified that passing of the aforesaid order shall not confer any immunity upon the petitioners in case it is found that they have committed any wrong.
