The petitioner-Ramandeep Kaur aged about 18 years seeks issuance of a direction to respondents No.2 & 3 to protect her life and liberty as she apprehends threat to the same at the hands of respondents No.4 & 5 who are none else but her mother and her husband. 2.

Learned counsel for the petitioner has submitted that her parents had dissolved their marriage when she was barely 2 years old and that she had been living with her mother and was forcibly married to respondent No.5 when she was barely 16 1⁄2 years old. However, since her husband was an addict and used to beat her, she left her matrimonial home and came back to her mother's house but even her mother was not kind to her and forced her to establish physical relations with some unknown persons constraining the petitioner to leave even her parental home. It has been submitted that she has now been residing with her friends and that the family of one of her friend namely Charanjeet Singh is ready to keep the petitioner but the petitioner's mother and her husband i.e. respondents No.4 & 5 are bent upon causing harm to her. 4.

I have heard learned counsel for the petitioner. Without expressing any opinion as regards the relationship of the petitioner with Charanjeet Singh, the petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2Senior Superintendent of Police, Barnala to get the matter examined especially as regards the threat perception. In case, there is any genuine apprehension of threat to life and liberty of the petitioner, then adequate steps be taken so as to ensure that no harm is caused to the petitioner. 5.

It is however made clear that the aforesaid order shall not confer any immunity upon the petitioner in case it is found that she has committed any wrong.
