This is the petition under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India for protection of life and liberty of the petitioners. It is contended by the learned counsel for the petitioners that both the petitioners are major and have been in love with each other. Respondent No.4 is the father of petitioner No.1 and respondent Nos.5 to 16 are the relatives of petitioner No.1, who are against the relationship of the petitioners. The petitioners, against the wishes of parents and relatives of petitioner No.1, have solemnized their marriage on 16.07.2020 at Gurudwara Guru Nanak Niwas Sahib at Village Karor Kalan, Tehsil Kharar, District Mohali, as per Sikh rites and rituals. On 16.07.2020 itself the petitioners had given a representation dated 16.07.2020 (Annexure P-4) to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Patiala for protection of their lives and liberty. Heard learned counsel for the parties.

Without expressing any opinion with regard to the veracity of the contents of the petition and the submissions made by learned counsel for the petitioners, the present petition is disposed of with a direction to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Patiala, Punjab to consider the representation dated 16.07.2020 (Annexure P-4) and take necessary action as per law.

It is, however, made clear that this order shall not, in any manner, be construed as an expression of the opinion on the veracity of the statement made by the petitioners or on the validity of the marriage and shall have no effect on any other civil or criminal proceedings, if any, instituted/pending against them.
