(Oral) Petitioner No.1-Kamaljit Kaur aged 18 years and petitioner No.2- Balpreet Singh aged 20 years, have approached this Court seeking issuance of a direction to official respondents to protect their lives and liberty as they apprehend threat to the same at the hands of private respondents No.4 to 8, having married against their wishes. Having heard the learned counsel for the petitioners and while refraining from making any expression as regards the veracity of the averments made in the petition, the petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2 i.e.
Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, to look into the matter and to dispose of the representation dated 1.7.2021 (Annexure P-6) in accordance with law. In case, it is found that there is an imminent threat to the lives and liberty of the petitioners at the hands of respondents No.4 to 8, MOHAN SINGH 2021.07.
- 2 - CRWP-6227-2021 (O&M) then necessary steps warranted under law be taken thereupon at the earliest so as to ensure that no harm is caused to the petitioners. A copy of this order alongwith copy of the representation dated 1.7.2021 be sent to Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana (respondent No.2), so as to enable him to do the needful expeditiously. It is, however, clarified that the aforesaid order shall not be taken to be any expression as regards the validity of marriage of the petitioners particularly keeping in view the fact that the petitioner No.2 was not of marriageable age at the time of solemnization of the marriage.
