1. Petitioner No.1-Krishan Singh aged about 30 years and petitioner No.2Sukhsimranjit Kaur aged about 17 years and 6 months, both of whom are stated to be engaged and presently living together have approached this Court seeking issuance of a direction to official respondents to protect their lives and liberty as they apprehend threat to the same at the hands of respondent No.5-Kashmira Singh who is stated to be uncle (Taya) of petitioner No.2-Sukhsimranjit Kaur who has already lost her parents.

2. Learned counsel for the petitioners submits that both the petitioners have been engaged with the consent of their families. However, petitioner No.2 had lost her parents while she was very young and was brought up by her uncle and her aunt (Bua) who on account of greed are now forcing petitioner No.2 to transfer the property held by her father in their favour and have been threatening to cause harm to the petitioners. Having heard the learned counsel for the petitioners and without commenting anything as regards the veracity of the averments made in the petition, the petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2-Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, District Ludhiana, to look into the matter and to dispose off the representation dated 26.4.2023 (Annexure P-4) in accordance with law. In case, it is found that there is a genuine threat to the lives and liberty of the petitioners, then necessary steps warranted under law be taken thereupon at the earliest so as to ensure that no harm is caused to the petitioners.

4. A copy of this order alongwith copy of the representation dated 26.4.2023 (Annexure P-4) be sent to respondent No.2-Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, District Ludhiana, so as to enable him to do the needful expeditiously.

5. It is, however, clarified that the aforesaid order shall not be taken to be any expression as regards veracity of averments made in petition and shall not confer any immunity upon the petitioners, in case it is found that they have committed any wrong.
