The present petition has been filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India for issuance of a writ in the nature of mandamus directing respondents No.2 and 3 to protect the life and liberty of petitioners at the hands of respondents No.4 to 9. 2.

Learned counsel for the petitioners contends that petitioner No.1 is already married and is having 03 children i.e. 02 sons and 01 daughter and both her sons are married whereas the daughter is residing with petitioner No.1 and due to continuous beatings given by respondent No.6 - husband of petitioner No.1, she left his company. Similarly, petitioner No.2 was earlier married and he is having 02 children i.e. 01 son and 01 daughter and both of them are also married and the wife of petitioner No.2 has passed away in the month of August, 2024. He further submits that the present petitioners, both consenting adults, now decided to live together. They informed this fact to their families members and faced strong objections. CRWP-3613-2025 oppose their live-in relationship and the said relationship is not acceptable to respondents No.4 to 9 and they are threatening the petitioners with dire consequences. The petitioners apprehend danger to their life and liberty from respondents No.4 to 9 and in this regard, submitted a representation dated 03.04.2025 (Annexure P-3) to respondent No.2 but no action has been taken so far. 3.

Notice of motion to the official respondents only. 4.

Mr. Subhash Godara, Addl. A.G., Punjab, who is present in Court, accepts notice for the official respondents. Learned counsel for the petitioners is directed to supply a copy of complete paper book to learned State counsel during course of the day. 5.

Without commenting on the relationship of the petitioners and entering upon an exercise to evaluate the evidentiary value of the documents placed on the file, I dispose of this petition with direction to respondent No.2 to decide the representation of the petitioners (Annexure P-3) within a period of one week from the date of receipt of a copy of this order and grant them protection, if there is any threat to their life and liberty in accordance with law. 6.

It is made clear that this order shall not be taken to protect the petitioners from legal action for violation of law, if any committed by them.
