The Court has been convened through video conferencing due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Petitioner and respondent No.4 solemnized a run away marriage on 19.06.2020 at Panchkula as per Hindu rites and ceremonies. Thereafter, they approached this Court by filing CRWP No.4057 of 2020 seeking protection of their life and liberty. As their parents accepted the marriage, the petitioner withdrew the writ petition on 09.07.2020 (Annexure P-2). The petitioner and respondent No.4 started residing together in their matrimonial home. However, when the petitioner became pregnant, the relatives of her husband-respondents No.5 to 9, started instigating her husband against her to either get a divorce from the petitioner or to force her to abort the child. When the petitioner refused, she was beaten mercilessly and thrown out of the matrimonial home. The petitioner approached the Sarpanch of the village/respondent No.

10 and later the local police authorities for seeking protection and for resolving the dispute with her husband and his relations. However, her efforts did not yield any result. She SAVITA KADIAN 2020.08.

CRWP No.5467 of 2020 {2} submitted a representation dated 22.07.2020 (Annexure P-4) to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Patiala seeking protection of her life and liberty, but no action was taken thereon.

Counsel for the petitioner submits that, at this stage, the petitioner would be satisfied in case the present petition is disposed of with a direction to the concerned official respondent to look into her representation within a specific time frame.

Submission made by the counsel is just and reasonable. Without going into the allegations levelled by the petitioner in the petition or in her representation, the writ petition is disposed of with a direction to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Patiala-respondent No.2 to examine the representation dated 22.07.2020 (Annexure P-4) and take appropriate steps as warranted in accordance with law. In case, it is found that there is any imminent threat to the life and liberty of the petitioner then it be ensured that no harm is caused to her.

A copy of this order alongwith copy of the representation dated 22.07.2020 (Annexure P-4) be sent to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Patiala-respondent No.2 to enable him to do the needful within four weeks of the receipt of certified copy of this order. Disposed of.
