The writ petition filed by the petitioners is bereft of necessary particulars. The petitioners pray for issuance of a writ in the nature of mandamus to direct the respondents to release the amount of compensation for the land acquisition.

The acquisition is stated to be under the National Highways Act, 1956 (hereinafter referred to as "the 1956 Act"). Neither the date of award, as envisaged under the 1956 Act, has been disclosed nor the Union of India or the National Highways Authority has been made party to the writ petition.
