(Oral) The petitioners have approached this Court seeking protection of their life and liberty on the premise that petitioner No.1 has performed marriage with petitioner No.2 against the wishes of her parents and other family members and the petitioners are apprehending threat to their life and liberty at their instance.

On asking of the Court, Mr. Joginder Pal Ratra, DAG, Punjab accepts notice on behalf of the respondent-State while Mr. Parvez Akhtar, Advocate has appeared on behalf of respondents No.5 to 7. As respondents No.5 to 7 have appeared through their counsel, the matter was referred to the Mediation and Conciliation Centre of this Court for recording the statements of the parties. CRM-M-44961-2018 -2Petitioner No.1 Preetinder Kaur has stated that she has performed marriage with petitioner No.2 Jagseer Singh and wants to stay with him as legally wedded wife.
Rajinder Kaur-respondent No.5, mother of petitioner No.1 and Avtar Singh-respondent No.7, brother-in-law of petitioner No.1 have also stated that they have no objection if both the petitioners stay together as husband and wife and they will not interfere in their matrimonial life. Learned counsel for the petitioners has submitted that a representation dated 08.10.2018 was made to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Sangrur (Annexure P-4) seeking necessary protection but no action has been taken so far in the matter.

Without examining the question of validity or otherwise of marriage of the petitioners, the present petition stands disposed of with a direction to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Sangrur to look into grievance of the petitioners expressed in the representation (Annexure P-4) and take appropriate action, if any, warranted in the circumstances.
