MANJARI NEHRU KAUL, J. (ORAL) Prayer in the instant petition filed under Article 226/227 of the Constitution of India is for issuance of directions to the respondents, to protect the life and liberty of the petitioner. 2.

Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that he is facing trial in 13 criminal cases and is currently lodged in District Jail, Rupnagar. Learned counsel, inter alia, contends that he has a genuine apprehension that as and when he is taken to different Courts for hearing, he can be attacked by anti-social elements. Hence, in the circumstances, he be provided adequate security. Learned counsel submits that the petitioner would not even be averse in case he is handcuffed and his legs are shackled while being taken to different Courts for hearing.

After arguing for some time, learned counsel submits that the petitioner would be satisfied if directions are given to the official respondents to take appropriate steps to ensure protection of his life. 4.
