MEENAKSHI I. MEHTA (ORAL) Case has been taken up through video conferencing in view of the outbreak of Pandemic COVID-19. By way of the instant petition, the petitioners have sought the indulgence of this Court for issuance of a direction to respondents No.2 and 3 to protect their life and personal liberty as they apprehend threat to the same at the hands of respondents No.4 to 8 because a criminal case was registered against respondent No.4 and some other persons at the instance of petitioner No.2 and now, respondents No.4 to 8 are pressurising them (petitioners) to enter into a compromise in that case while threatening that otherwise, they would face dire consequences. Notice on behalf of respondents No.1 to 3 has been accepted by Mr.Gaurav Garg Dhuriwala, Sr.DAG, Punjab. Learned counsel for the petitioners points out that petitioner No.1 has already moved a complaint/representation (Annexure P/4) to Senior Superintendent of Police, Amritsar Rural, i.e., respondent No.2, regarding the aforementioned grievance and he restricts his prayer to issuance of a direction to respondent No.2 to take appropriate action on the said complaint/representation expeditiously.

Learned counsel for the State has no objection for the same.

Accordingly, respondent No.2-Senior Superintendent of Police, Amritsar Rural is hereby directed to look into the said complaint/representation (Annexure P/4) as moved by petitioner No.1 to him and if it is found that the petitioners genuinely deserve any protection as prayed for, then to take appropriate action in accordance with law, preferably within one week. The petition stands disposed of.
