HON'BLE MR. JUSTICE JASGURPREET SINGH PURI * * * PRESENT Mr.Ankit Rana, Advocate, for the petitioner.

JASGURPREET SINGH PURI , J. (ORAL ) The present petition has been filed seeking protection of life and liberty of the petitioners on the ground that they have married with each other but the private respondents are interfering in their life and are threatening them. Both the petitioners are of marriageable age. Petitioner No.1 (girl) is 19 years of age whereas petitioner No.2 (boy) is 30 years old. The age is substantiated by copies of Aadhaar Cards (Annexures P-1 and P2) and marriage certificate is annexed as Annexure P-3. Notice of motion.

CRWP-6551-2021 (O&M) Mr.Randhir Singh Thind, DAG, Punjab, accepts notice on behalf of respondent Nos.1 to 3.

Mr.Jagmeet Singh Moudgil, Advocate has caused appearance and has accepted notice on behalf of respondent No.4 who is mother of petitioner No.1. He has submitted that so far as age is concerned, it is not disputed that petitioner No.1 is 19 years of age. He has also stated that there is no threat from the respondent No.4 to the petitioners. However, he has submitted that respondent No.4 be permitted to meet the petitioners. I have heard the learned counsel for the parties. The scope of the present petition pertains only to protection of life and liberty of the petitioners. They allegedly have married each other against the wishes of their parents. Admittedly, both the petitioners are of marriageable age. They can certainly live a life of their own after attaining the age of marriage and can marry with their own choice.

Since the learned counsel for the petitioners has submitted that there is threat to the life and liberty of the petitioners from the private respondent, this petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2 - Senior Superintendent of Police, Police District Khanna, District Ludhiana, to assess the threat perception of the petitioners and in case it so exists then to take appropriate action in accordance with law.
