(ORAL) This petition has been filed by the petitioner by way of public interest litigation praying for a direction to the Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha to decide the petitioner's representation/legal notice dated 11.06.2021 (Annexure P-9) seeking disqualification of respondents No. 3 to 8 on account of the fact that they have incurred disqualification under the 10th Schedule of the Constitution of India.

The petitioner, at the outset, was confronted with an issue of maintainability of the writ petition as public interest litigation. However, Mr. Atul Nanda, learned Advocate General, Punjab, on instructions from Mr. S.P.S. Tinna, learned Additional Advocate General, Punjab, submits that the Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha has already issued notice to respondents No. 3 to 8 for 17.08.2021 to initiate proceedings against them. In the circumstances, as the Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha has already taken up the matter and has proceeded in accordance with law, learned senior counsel for the petitioner submits that nothing, at this stage, is required to be done in the present writ petition and the same be disposed of in terms of the statement made by the learned Advocate General, Punjab. Therefore, taking the aforesaid statement of learned Advocate General, Punjab on record, the petition filed by the petitioner is accordingly disposed of.
