The petitioners, who are facing investigation in FIR No.206 dated 18.09.2019, under Section 498-A of the IPC, registered at P.S. Tripri Patiala, District Patiala, have approached this Court for issuance of directions upon the official respondents to conclude the investigation in the FIR (supra), as the same is pending for the last more than 51⁄2 years. 2.
On 23.04.2025, this Court had, without issuing notice, directed the respondent(s)-State of Punjab to, on affidavit of a responsible functionary, inform this Court the status of investigation conducted so far in the FIR (supra), besides informing the time required to conclude the investigation.

In deference to the directions (supra), today the learned State counsel has filed a status report dated 07.05.2025, on affidavit of Mr. Manoj Gorsi, PPS, Deputy Superintendent of Police, City-II, District DEVINDER YADAV 2025.05.08 18:37 I attest to the accuracy and authenticity of this order/judgment
CWP-10982-2025 Patiala, which is taken on record. Copy of the status report is supplied also to the learned counsel for the petitioners. 4.
The status report reveals that, earlier a cancellation report was prepared in the FIR (supra) on 06.03.2020, however, the learned J.M.I.C. rejected the same vide order dated 05.11.2022, which resulted in the FIR (supra) becoming further investigated. 5.
The learned State counsel, on instruction imparted to him by S.I. Gurjinder Singh, P.S. Tripri, District Patiala, submits that, now the general power of attorney of the complainant has made a statement to the effect that, he does not want to pursue the instant matter, hence they are in the process of concluding the further investigation and it will be concluded within six weeks' from today.

In view of the specific submission made by the learned State counsel, this Court is of the view that, at this stage no further direction is required to be passed. Therefore, the instant writ petition is closed. However, the investigating officer is directed to ensure that investigation in the FIR is concluded as per the submission (supra). 7.
Disposed of accordingly.
