Prayer in the present revision petition is for issuance of directions to the Rent Controller to decide the petition being RP-410-2019 filed under Section 13 of the East Punjab Urban Rent Restriction Act, 1949 (Annexure P-1) in a time-bound manner.

The Dashboard of the District Courts, Amritsar, available on the website of National Judicial Data Grid, reveals the pendency of 17400 such cases.

Hon'ble Supreme Court in the case titled as High Court Bar Association, Allahabad Vs. State of U.P. & Ors. [2024 (2) RCR (Civil) 199] has held in para No.37(c) as under :

"37(c) Constitutional Courts, in the ordinary course, should refrain from fixing a time-bound schedule for the disposal of cases pending before any other Courts. No exceptional circumstances have been shown to this Court by the learned counsel for the petitioners for issuance of directions to the Rent Controller concerned for decision of the petition expeditiously. The present revision petition is, accordingly, dismissed. Pending applications, if any, also stand disposed off.
