The petitioner through instant petition under Article 226 of the Constitution of India is seeking direction to official respondents to issue Duplicate Registration Certificate of the vehicle owned by her. She is further seeking direction to rectify/update ownership and registration records of said vehicle.

The petitioner is owner of Mahindra Scorpio bearing Registration No. PB-02-DK-7008, Chassis No.MAITA2WR2H2M12434 and Engine No.WRH4M17083. On 17.01.2022, she lost her purse containing the original registration certificate of the vehicle in question and attempted to locate the same but to no avail. On 21.01.2022 she filed a missing report. She approached official respondents for issuance of duplicate registration certificate but was astonished to know that the Department does not have any record of the vehicle in question. CWP-11460-2026 -203.12.2025 was served upon official respondents. Punjab State Transport Department vide letter dated 11.12.2025 asked the State Transport Commissioner, Punjab to take requisite action available within the domain of Rules/Instructions.

Learned State counsel, on instructions from Mr. Manmeet Singh Bhattal, Joint State Transport Commissioner, Punjab, submits that duplicate registration certificate of aforesaid vehicle shall be released within 4 weeks from today.

Learned counsel for the petitioner agrees to the aforesaid agreement.

In the wake of statement of both sides, the petition stands disposed of.
