The instant petition has been filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India by the petitioner inter alia seeking issuance of a writ in the nature of Habeas Corpus, for producing the detenue namely Palak, daughter of Manjit Singh, aged 20 years and 04 months, from the alleged illegal custody of respondents No.4 to 10.

The relevant extract of the order dated 13.04.2026, passed by this Court, is reproduced here-under:- "2.

Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that the petitioner and the detenue were earlier in a live-in relationship against her family's wishes, and have thereafter got married and the detenue is pregnant. It is urged that the detenue has been illegally kidnapped and her life and liberty is in danger, and there is also apprehension that her family is likely to get her pregnancy terminated, against her wishes. 3.

Notice of motion.

Ms. Ambika Chaudhary, Assistant Advocate General, Punjab, on the asking of the Court, accepts notice on behalf of State and seeks time to file a detailed status report in the matter. 5.

Adjourned to 23.04.2026.

In the meanwhile, respondents No.2 and 3, i.e. Senior Superintendent of Police, Tarn Taran and Station House Officer, Police

Learned counsel for the petitioner reiterates that the petitioner and the detenue were earlier residing in a live-in relationship against the wishes of their family members. Thereafter, both of them got married and, at present, detenue - Palak is on family way.

It is further submitted that detenue - Palak was illegally kidnapped and, under the apprehension of danger to her life and liberty, the instant habeas corpus petition has been filed by the petitioner. 4.

Vide order dated 13.04.2026, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Tarn Taran, was directed to ensure complete safety of the detenue and to produce her before this Court.

Today, in compliance with the order dated 13.04.2026, detenue - Palak has been produced before this Court by Lady Constable Rajwinder Kaur, who also identifies the detenue.

Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that detenue - Palak has since been produced and has expressed her willingness to stay with the petitioner. It is further submitted that, there being a compromise between the parents of the detenue and the petitioner, detenue - Palak has been allowed to join the company of the petitioner. In view thereof, the instant petition may be disposed of.

Upon this, on being asked by the Court, detenue - Palak, who is present in person before this Court, states that she is 21 years of age and, of her own free will and wish, without any influence, coercion or pressure of any kind, she be permitted to go and join the company of the petitioner, Jashandeep Singh, being her husband.

In view thereof, learned counsel for the petitioner further submits that the instant petition has been rendered infructuous and may be disposed of as such.
