It is stated that petitioner no.1 - Kirandeep Kaur, aged about 20 years, professing Sikh religion, and petitioner No.2 - Vishal s/o Peter Masih, aged about 22 years, earlier practicing Christianity but now as per his affidavit having converted to Sikhism, are stated to have got married against the wishes of family members of petitioner No.1, arrayed as respondents No. 4 to 6, who are threatening to interfere in their marital life, as such to seek protection in that regard, they have approached this Court by way of filing the present petition. It is further stated that the petitioner No.1 had submitted a written representation to respondent No.2 - the Senior Superintendent of Police, Amritsar Rural, dated 22.7.2021, seeking BANITA CHUGH 2021.07.27 13:45 I agree to specified portions of this document

At this stage, Mr. J.S. Ghuman, DAG, Punjab, has accepted notice on behalf of respondents No. 1 to 3.

The petition is disposed of directing respondent No.2 - the Senior Superintendent of Police, Amritsar Rural, to look into representation Annexure P-6, assess threat perception to the petitioners and if he finds that some action in the matter is warranted, then the needful be done in accordance with law. However, this order shall not validate the marriage between the petitioners and shall not have any effect on any civil or criminal action to which the petitioners may be found liable under the law.
