(Oral) Petitioner No.1-Harleen Kaur aged 18 years and petitioner No.2-Parmeet Singh aged 20 years, have approached this Court seeking issuance of a direction to official respondents to protect their lives and liberty as they apprehend threat to the same at the hands of private respondents No.4 to 7.

Learned counsel for the petitioners has submitted that the petitioners are fond of each other and intend to marry after petitioner No.2 attains marriageable age. It has been submitted that the private respondents are however, opposed to the said relationship and have been extending threats to the petitioners constraining petitioner No.1 to leave her parental home and she has thus joined the company of petitioner No.2 and both of them are presently living in a 'live-in' relationship. - 2 - CRWP-6986-2021 (O&M) Having heard the learned counsel for the petitioners and while refraining from making any expression as regards the veracity of the averments made in the petition, the petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2 i.e. Superintendent of Police, Yamuna Nagar, to look into the matter and to dispose of the representation dated 23.7.2021 (Annexure P3) in accordance with law. In case, it is found that there is any genuine threat to the lives and liberty of the petitioners at the hands of respondents No.4 to 7, then necessary steps warranted under law be taken thereupon at the earliest so as to ensure that no harm is caused to the petitioners. A copy of this order alongwith copy of the representation dated 23.7.2021 be sent to Superintendent of Police, Yamuna Nagar (respondent No.2), so as to enable him to do the needful expeditiously. It is, however, clarified that the aforesaid order shall not confer any immunity upon the petitioners, in case it is found that they have committed any wrong.
