The present criminal writ petition has been filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India read with Section 528 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 seeking issuance of directions to respondent Nos. 2 to 5 to provide immediate police protection to the petitioner on the ground that he is allegedly facing imminent threat to his life and liberty from gangsters, namely Lucky Patial and others, from whom the petitioner claims to have been subjected to continuous and repeated threats. The petitioner has further prayed for issuance of appropriate directions to the official respondents to safeguard and protect his life and liberty in accordance with law.

Upon notice, the State of Punjab has filed reply/status report to the present writ petition and has submitted that pursuant to the representation dated 23.03.2026 (Annexure P-1) submitted by the petitioner ANU 2026.05.26 17:12 I attest to the accuracy and integrity of this document Chandigarh

regarding threat perception to his life and liberty, inquiry was conducted by the concerned police authorities. It has been submitted that during inquiry, statement of the petitioner was recorded and assessment regarding threat perception was forwarded vide letter No. 683/5A dated 22.04.2026 by Police Station Mullanpur Garibdas to the Security Branch, office of the Senior Superintendent of Police, District SAS Nagar for appropriate orders. It has further been submitted that the area of the office and residence of the petitioner is being regularly monitored by the PCR party through patrolling and the petitioner has also been provided with the contact numbers of the Station House Officer, Head Munshi and District Control Room so that he may directly contact them whenever required. The State has further submitted that appropriate measures are being continuously taken to protect the life and liberty of the petitioner.

In view of the aforesaid stand taken by the State and keeping in view the fact that the representation dated 23.03.2026 (Annexure P-1) of the petitioner has already been considered, threat assessment has been conducted and necessary protective measures including monitoring/patrolling and providing contact details of police officials have already been undertaken, no further cause of action survives in the present petition.

Accordingly, the present petition stands disposed of as having been rendered infructuous.
