MANJARI NEHRU KAUL, J. (Oral) The instant petition has been filed for issuance of direction to respondents No. 2 and 3 to protect the life and liberty of the petitioners from the hands of private respondents.

It is contended that the petitioners are major and have solemnized their marriage on 26.08.2020 against the wishes of the private respondents who have been threatening them with dire consequences. Soon after their marriage, the petitioners submitted a representation dated 26.08.2020 (Annexure P4) to respondent No.2 i.e. The Senior Superintendent of Police, District Hoshiarpur, for redressal of their grievance but no action has been taken thereon so far. Learned counsel submits that the petitioners would be satisfied if a direction is issued to the respondents for taking a decision on their representation (Annexure P4). CRWP-6599-2020 [ 2 ] Notice of motion.

On the asking of the Court, Ms. Samina Dhir, DAG, Punjab, accepts notice on behalf of the State.

Keeping in view the limited prayer addressed by the petitioners, the Senior Superintendent of Police, District Hoshiarpur (respondent No.2) is directed to consider and decide the representation dated 26.08.2020 (Annexure P4) submitted by the petitioners and take appropriate action keeping in view the alleged threat perception, if any. It is, however, made clear that this order shall have no effect on the validity of the alleged marriage of the petitioners and neither will any other civil or criminal proceedings initiated against the petitioners be barred due to this order.

Petition is disposed of accordingly.
