Through the instant writ petition, the petitioners seek issuance of directions to respondents No.1 and 2 to act in accordance with the recommendations of the Departmental Promotion and Recruitment Committee (High Court) made in its meeting dated 27.08.2018, whereby it was recommended that the request of Drivers/Supervisors of Drivers employed in the establishment of this Court be considered for grant of higher pay scales w.e.f. 01.12.2011 onwards.

In its reply dated 15.01.2020, the respondent-State stated that one CWP-7920-2013 was filed by drivers working in various departments of the Government of Punjab seeking similar relief, namely grant of pay scale of ₹10300-34800 + Grade Pay of ₹3200/- w.e.f. 01.12.2011, which was DEVINDER YADAV 2026.05.22 12:27 I attest to the accuracy and authenticity of this order/judgment

CWP-23796-2019 allowed by this Court vide order dated 01.02.2018. The said order was challenged by the respondent-State by way of an intra-court appeal, i.e. LPA-449-2019, which was pending at the time of filing of the said reply dated 15.01.2020.

Since the LPA (supra) stood dismissed vide order dated 09.03.2026, this Court had directed learned State counsel to have instructions from the authority concerned, and apprise the Court as to whether the State Government proposes to take a decision on the recommendations of the Departmental Promotion and Recruitment Committee (High Court).

Today, learned State counsel, upon instructions, submits that the matter is under active consideration and the State Government shall take an appropriate decision in accordance with law in due course. 5.

The instant writ petition has been pending since 2019 and relates to the claim for grant of higher pay scales w.e.f. 01.12.2011. In view of such circumstances and considering the grievance of the petitioners, this Court deems it appropriate to dispose of the writ petition with a direction to the respondent-State to take a final decision in the matter within a period of three months from the date of receipt of a certified copy of this order. 6.
