IN THE HIGH COURT OF PUNJAB AND HARYANA

AT CHANDIGARH CRM-M-53042 of 2018 Date of Decision: 22.05.2019 Sibbar Singh @ Shebber Singh

...Petitioner

Versus

State of Punjab ....Respondent CORAM: HON'BLE MR. JUSTICE RAMENDRA JAIN Present:- Mr. Sumeet Puri, Advocate, for the petitioner. Mr. Hittan Nehra, Addl. A.G., Punjab.

RAMENDRA JAIN, J. (ORAL) Through this petition under Section 439 Cr.P.C. prayer has been made for grant of regular bail to the petitioner in a case arising from FIR No.121 dated 29.09.2016 registered under Section 420 IPC at Police Station City Sunam, District Sangrur.

Petitioner is facing trial in the aforesaid FIR on the allegations that he cheated the complainant for `1.50 lakh on the pretext of providing him job, but did not fulfil his promise. Finally, petitioner out of the total cheated amount of `1.50 lakh issued a cheque of `66,000/-, which bounced. Learned counsel inter alia contends that petitioner is in custody since 05.10.2018. Conclusion of trial may take a sufficient long time. No useful purpose would be served by detaining the petitioner any more in jail.

On the other hand, learned State counsel vehemently opposed the grant of regular bail to the petitioner.
