JASGURPREET SINGH PURI , J. (ORAL ) Petitioner No.1 (girl) is of the age of 21 years whereas petitioner No.2 (boy) is of the age of 22 years. It is averred that they have got married on 1.8.2021 but they are apprehending threat to their life and liberty at the hands of private respondents who are opposed to their marriage.

Learned counsel for the petitioners has submitted that scope of the present petition pertains to the protection of their lives and even though petitioner No.1 is governed by Hindu Marriage Act but RAJ KUMAR ARORA 2021.08.09 12:42 I attest to the accuracy and integrity of this document

CRWP-7354-2021 (O&M) petitioner is not governed by the Hindu Marriage Act but the fact remains that they have got married and the protection is sought only on the ground that there is imminent threat to them at the hands of private respondents. Petitioners claim to have submitted a representation (Annexure P-6) dated 2.8.2021, in this regard to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Pathankot.

Heard. Record perused.

Notice of motion to respondent Nos.1, 2 and 3 only. Mr.Randhir Singh Thind, DAG, Punjab, accepts notice on behalf of the aforesaid respondents. Copy stands supplied. This Court does not wish to make any observations with regard to the validity of inter se marriage between the petitioners who belong to different religion. However, since both the petitioners are stated to be of marriage age and are stated to have married each other the scope of present petition pertains only to protection of their lives. This petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2 - the Senior Superintendent of Police, Pathankot, District Pathankot, that representation (Annexure P-6) filed seeking protection of life and liberty, be looked into and contents thereof be duly verified and if necessary, requisite steps be taken, strictly in accordance with law for grant of protection of life and liberty to the petitioners.
