The petitioner has filed this petition under Section 439 Cr.P.C. for grant of regular bail in case FIR No.125 dated 11.6.2016 registered for the offences under Sections 379, 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B IPC at Police Station Kotwali Patiala, District Patiala. Cr. Misc. No.M-8147 of 2017 [2] From the record, I find that as per prosecution version, the present petitioner is the main accused. As per the FIR, tax refund vouchers/ cheques and stamps had been stolen from the Income-Tax Department, Patiala and the cheques amounting `50 Lakhs have been credited in the name of Sunil Kumar-present petitioner.

Keeping in view the nature and gravity of the offenes and the fact that the cheques have been deposited with the forged signatures etc. in the name of Sunil Kumar, I do not find it a fit case where the present petitioner is entitled to the benefit of regular bail at this stage. Therefore, finding no merit in this petition, the same is dismissed.

However, as the petitioner has been in custody since 16.6.2016, the trial Court is directed to expedite the trial by giving short adjournments and if necessary day to day adjournments. The Investigating Officer/S.H.O. of the concerned Police Station are directed to produce the witnesses before the trial Court at the earliest on the next two/three dates. May 15, 2017.
