HARINDER SINGH SIDHU, J The petitioner has invoked the writ jurisdiction of this Court under Article 226 of the Constitution praying for issuance of a writ in the nature of habeas corpus, alleging that he got married to Ruppy Kaur on 04.07.2022.
It is stated that the marriage was performed against the wishes of parents and relatives of Ruppy Kaur. Apprehending danger to their life and liberty, petitioner and Ruppy Kaur approached the District Courts, Ludhiana. On the same day i.e 04.07.2022, they filed a petition seeking protection. At about 10.00 a.m, when they were in the District Courts, Ludhiana, respondent Nos.4 to 6, who are relatives of Ruppy Kaur forcibly took her away. It is alleged that Ruppy Kaur is being illegally detained by respondent Nos.4 to 6 against her wishes. When the case came up for hearing on 06.07.2022, notice was issued to the official respondents with Respondent No.2-Commissioner of Police being requested to enquire about MANOJ KUMAR 2022.07.27 08:44 I attest to the accuracy and integrity of this document

Today, Ruppy Kaur is present in person. She states that she has known the petitioner for some time. Petitioner convinced her that her parents also wanted to get her married to him. Under this impression, she married him on 04.07.2022. At the marriage ceremony, none of her family members was present. Thereafter, she along with the petitioner went to the District Courts. Her parents were already present in the District Courts. On seeing them, the petitioner ran away. Thereafter, she along with her uncle went to her parental home. Since then, she is staying with her parents. She is under no pressure of any kind. Her marriage has been performed with one Satpal Singh of village Sahnewal. She was earlier engaged to him. She is living happily with Satpal Singh and does not wish to go with the petitioner.
In the light of statement made by Ruppy Kaur, no further directions are required to be issued.
