(Heard through video conferencing) CORAM: HON'BLE MRS.JUSTICE MEENAKSHI I. MEHTA

Present:

Mr.Bhupinder Ghai, Advocate, for the petitioners.

Mr.Prabhjot Singh Walia, Asstt.AG, Punjab.

MEENAKSHI I. MEHTA (ORAL ) By way of the instant petition, the petitioners have sought the indulgence of this Court for issuance of a writ in the nature of mandamus, directing respondents No.2 to 4 to protect their life and personal liberty as they apprehend threat to the same at the hands of respondents No.5 to 7 because their daughter is married to the son of respondents No.5 and 6, who happens to be the brother of respondent No.7 and the couple is residing in Canada. Due to some matrimonial discord having arisen between the said couple, the proceedings were initiated in the Court at Canada and now, the private respondents are hellbent to pressurize them (petitioners) to get the afore-said proceedings withdrawn by their daughter. A further prayer has also been made for directing respondent No.2-Senior Superintendent of Police, Barnala, to look into and decide the representation dated 15.07.2020 SEEMA SHARMA 2020.09.18 15:40 I attest to the accuracy and integrity of this document

CRWP No.7088 of 2020 ...2..

(Annexure P-4), as moved by petitioner No.1 in this regard. Notice of motion to respondents No.1 to 4 only. At the asking of the Court, Mr. Parbhjot Singh Walia, Asstt.AG, Punjab, accepts notice on behalf of respondents No.1 to 4. Heard.

Learned counsel for the petitioners restricts his prayer to issuance of a direction to respondent No.2 to take appropriate action on the said representation (Annexure P-4).

Learned counsel for the State has no objection for the same. Accordingly, respondent No.2-Senior Superintendent of Police, Barnala, is hereby directed to look into the said representation (Annexure P4) and in case, it is found that the petitioners genuinely deserve any protection, then to take appropriate action in accordance with law. This petition stands disposed of.
