The present writ petition under Article 226 of the Constitution of India has been filed seeking issuance of a writ in the nature of mandamus directing the official respondents to protect the life and liberty of the petitioner at the hands of private respondents. 2.

Learned counsel for the petitioner contends that petitioner is major and is friend of one Abhishek, who is resident of Panchkula. He further contends that petitioner wants to pursue her studies for better future, however, private respondents (her parents) are adamant to get her married against her wishes. Therefore, left with no option, she left her home and requested her friend Abhishek for protection. Thereafter, family of her friend Abhishek has allowed her to stay with them and since 19.04.2026, she is residing at Panchkula with them. He also submits that petitioner has serious apprehension that her life and liberty is at risk and therefore, she has already filed a representation dated 23.04.2026 (Annexure P-5) before the REKHA SIHAG 2026.04.29 16:21 I attest to the accuracy and authenticity of this document Chandigarh

CRWP-5018-2026(O&M) Commissioner of Police, Panchkula, however, no action has been taken on the same till date.

Mr. Vaibhav Sharma, AAG, Haryana, accepts notice on behalf of the respondent-State.

After hearing learned counsel for the parties, the present petition is disposed of with direction to respondent No. 2Commissioner of Police, Panchkula, to decide the representation dated 23.04.2026 (Annexure P-5) filed by the petitioner, qua her threat perception, in accordance with law, as early as possible and grant immediate protection, if any threat to the life and liberty to the petitioner, is perceived. It is being clarified that this order shall not be taken to grant immunity to the petitioner for legal action for violation of law, if any, committed by her.
