Petitioner No.1 Ayush Sharma aged about 20 years and petitioner No.2 Mahima Devi aged about 21 years have approached this Court seeking issuance of directions to respondents No.2 and 3 to protect their life and liberty, as they apprehend threat to the same at the hands of private respondents No.4 to 6 who are relatives of petitioner No.2. 2.

Learned counsel for the petitioners submits that they know each other since long and are fond of each other and intend to solemnize marriage once

( 2 ) petitioner No.1 attains marriageable age as per Hindu Marriage Act. It has been submitted that somehow the relatives and other members of family of petitioner No.2 do not approve of such relationship and have been threatening to cause harm to the petitioners constraining both the petitioners to run away from the respective parental homes. It has been submitted that ever since they left their parental home on 18.8.2021 they had been wandering here and there being scared of the private respondents who have been threatening to eliminate them.

It has further been submitted that although representation dated 18.8.2021 (Annexure P-3) was submitted to Superintendent of Police, Yamuna Nagar but to no avail.

Having heard the learned counsel for the petitioners and while refraining from making any expression as regards the veracity of the averments made in the petition, the petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2 i.e. Superintendent of Police, Yamuna Nagar, to look into the matter and to dispose of the representation dated 18.8.2021 (Annexure P-3) in accordance with law. In case, it is found that there is any genuine threat to the lives and liberty of the petitioners at the hands of respondents No.4 to 6, then necessary steps warranted under law be taken thereupon at the earliest so as to ensure that no harm is caused to the petitioners. 5.

A copy of this order alongwith copy of the representation dated 18.8.2021 be sent to Superintendent of Police, Yamuna Nagar (respondent No.2), so as to enable him to do the needful expeditiously.

It is, however, clarified that the aforesaid order shall not confer any immunity upon the petitioners, in case it is found that they have committed any wrong.
