RAJIVE BHALLA, J (Oral) The petitioner prays for issuance of a writ in the nature of mandamus directing the Gram Panchayat to hold an open auction, at some common place in the village.

We have heard counsel for the petitioner and in view of the limited nature of the prayer, dispose of the writ petition by directing the District Development and Panchayat Officer, Patiala and the Block Development and Panchayat Officer, Samana, District Patiala, to ensure that in case the Gram Panchayat decides to auction the "Shamilat" land of the village, the auction is carried out in strict compliance with Rule-6 of the Punjab Village Common Lands (Regulation) Rules, 1964.
