Present petition has been filed under Articles 226/227 of Constitution of India, for issuance of a writ or direction to the official respondents to protect the life and liberty of the petitioner and her family members as she apprehends threat to the same at the hands of the private respondents.

Learned counsel for the petitioner contended that a civil dispute is pending between the petitioner and the private respondents over a land, and the private respondents are attempting to forcibly dispossess the petitioner therefrom. It is submitted that although the petitioner approached the concerned police station by way of a complaint, no action was taken against the private respondents; rather, the police officials allegedly threatened the petitioner and attempted to compel a compromise under threat. Learned counsel further submitted that the petitioner also submitted a representation dated 02.04.2026 (Annexure P-4) to respondent No. 2-Senior Superintendent of Police, Ludhiana, but no action has been taken thereupon till date. Mr. Anup Singh, AAG, Punjab, accepted notice on behalf of the respondent-State and submitted that an earlier dispute had arisen between the parties in respect of which a complaint was received; however, the matter was subsequently amicably compromised between the parties in the presence of respectable members of society. He further submitted that thereafter another representation was filed by the petitioner, which has been marked to the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Crime against Women, District Ludhiana (Rural), and the matter is presently under inquiry. It is also submitted that the parties have been again called for 11.05.2026 in connection with the said inquiry.

Keeping in view the submissions made and considering the fact that, pursuant to the representation submitted by the petitioner, an inquiry has already been initiated and the matter is presently under consideration by the competent authority, no further directions are required to be passed at this stage. Accordingly, the present petition is disposed of. However, liberty is granted to the petitioner to avail any other remedy available in accordance with law, if feels aggrieved from the outcome of enquiry.
