This is a petition under Section 226 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 for issuance of directions to the official respondents to protect the life and liberty of the petitioner at the hands of private respondents.

Status report by way of an affidavit dated 23.06.2023 of Sanjeev Kumar, PPS, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sub-Division Ajnala, Amritsar (Rural) filed by learned State counsel is taken on record. Registry to scan the same and tag at the appropriate place. In the status report, in para 8, it has been stated as under :- 'That so far as the protection of lives and liberty of the petitioner and her family members is concerned, the police authorities of the Amritsar (Rural) are committed AMAN JAIN 2023.11.24 15:48 I attest to the accuracy and integrity of this judgment/order.

CRWP-5703-2023 (O&M) -2and duty bound to protect the life and liberty of the petitioner and her family members by providing every possible help to her whenever required by them. The answering respondents undertake that necessary action will be immediately taken to ensure the safety of lives and liberty of the petitioners after carrying out ground level assessment and if the need be, adequate security will be provided to him in accordance with the rules and procedure.'

In view of the stand taken by the State, the present petition is disposed off with a direction to respondent No.3 - SHO, Police Station City Ajnala, District Amritsar - to ensure the safety and security of the petitioner and her family members in accordance with the rules and procedure.
