The petitioners in this case seek premature release. They have been convicted for the offences punishable under Sections 307/304B/34 IPC by the learned Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track Court), Amritsar vide judgment dated 22.02.2002 and sentenced to undergo life imprisonment. At present, the petitioners are undergoing their sentence in Central Jail, Amritsar. As per reply dated 10.07.2017 filed on behalf of the respondents, it is mentioned that the case of the petitioners for premature release has been sent once again to the Additional Director General of Police (Prisons), Punjab, Chandigarh for consideration under Policy dated 08.07.1991 of the Government of Punjab vide letter No.6906 dated 12.06.2017 and 8952 dated 30.09.2016, Omkar Singh 2017.07.25 12:01 I attest to the accuracy and authenticity of this document Chandigarh

CRWP No.661 of 2017 [2] respectively.

Learned counsel for the State submits that the matter is still under consideration of the authorities.

Keeping in view the fact that the matter is still under consideration of the authorities, it is considered appropriate to dispose of this petition at this stage with a direction to the competent authority to expeditiously decide the petitioners' case for their premature release in accordance with law. It is clarified that there is no expression of any opinion on the merits of the case.
