The present petition has been filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India for issuance of a writ in the nature of mandamus directing respondents No.1 to 3 to protect the life and liberty of petitioners at the hands of respondents No.4 to 6. 2.

Learned counsel for the petitioners contends that petitioner No.1 is earlier married with one Kuldeep Singh (respondent No.4) and out of this wedlock, one girl child is born. It is alleged that respondent No.4 used to beat and torture petitioner No.1, after consuming liquor and after some time of the marriage, petitioner No.1 was thrown out of her matrimonial house and she started residing with her parents and there, she developed intimacy with petitioner No.2 and they both decided to live together. However, respondents No.4 to 6 opposed their live-in relationship and the said relationship is not acceptable to them and they are threatening the petitioners with dire consequences. CRWP-5105-2025 petitioners apprehend danger to their life and liberty from respondents No.4 to 6 and in this regard, submitted a representation dated 12.05.2025 (Annexure P-3) to respondents No.2 and 3 but no action has been taken so far.

Mr. Subhash Godara, Addl. A.G., Punjab, who is present in Court, accepts notice on behalf of the official respondents. Learned counsel for the petitioners is directed to supply a copy of complete paper book to learned State counsel during course of the day. 5.

Without commenting on the relationship of the petitioners and entering upon an exercise to evaluate the evidentiary value of the documents placed on the file, I dispose of this petition with direction to respondent No.2 to decide the representation of the petitioners (Annexure P-3) within a period of one week from the date of receipt of a copy of this order and grant them protection, if there is any threat to their life and liberty in accordance with law. 6.

It is made clear that this order shall not be taken to protect the petitioners from legal action for violation of law, if any committed by them.
