The petitioners have approached this Court seeking issuance of a direction to official respondents to protect their lives and liberty as they apprehend threat to the same at the hands of private respondents, having married against the wishes of their families.

At this stage, Mr. Ankur Bali, Addl.P.P., U.T., Chandigarh, upon whom an advance copy of petition had already been served, accepts notice on behalf of the respondent-State.

Learned State counsel has submitted that pursuant to receipt of an advance copy of the petition, the local police had contacted the parents of petitioner No.2-Sheetal, who stated that they accept the marriage and assured that they will not cause any harm to the petitioners.

In view of the aforestated position, the instant petition is disposed off having been rendered infructuous.

Respondents No.4 to 6 would be well advised not to take law into their hands. It is further clarified that in case the petitioners apprehend any threat to their lives and liberty at a later stage, it shall be open to them to approach this Court again.
