AARADHNA SAWHNEY , J (ORAL) Apprehending threat to their life and liberty from the hands of private respondents, petitioners have filed the present petition under Article 226 of the Constitution, praying therein to direct the official respondents to provide them adequate protection.

While mentioning the factual backdrop of the case, learned counsel for the petitioners contends that on 29.12.2025, son of the petitioner left the house without intimating them. Despite sincere efforts having been made to trace whereabouts of the boy, no clue could be found. It was only in the evening of 30.12.2025, when respondent Nos.5 & 6 visited the house of petitioners that they came to know that their son had taken away the daughter of respondent Nos.5 & 6 to an unknown destination.

It is specific stand of the petitioners that they are not aware of whereabouts of their son. Respondent No.5-father of the girl with whom son of petitioner has allegedly eloped, initiated criminal proceedings vide FIR No.01 dated 03.01.2026 under Sections 137(2) and 87 of BNS registered at P.S Dorangla against Palwinder-son of petitioner.

Necessity for filing the petition arose when respondent Nos.6 & 7 accompanied by respondent No.5 repeatedly threatened the petitioners and compelled them to disclose the whereabouts of their son. It is submitted that petitioners are not in touch with their son and are wholly unaware of his whereabouts. In fact, they have even issued public notice disinheriting him from all their moveable and immovable properties/assets. CRWP-5812-2026 It is in the backdrop of the facts mentioned hereinabove that present petition has been filed. Learned counsel further submits that several representation were made to the Police Authorities concerned detailing the entire facts but the same remain undecided. Learned counsel, at this stage, restricts his prayer to direct respondent No.3 to decide the representation dated 12.05.2026 (Annexure P.1) moved by the petitioners.

On the asking of the Court, Mr. Amit Sangwan, AAG, Punjab accepts notice on behalf of respondents No.1 to 5-State. 5.

After considering the respective submissions made by learned counsel for the petitioners and the averments made in the petition, without commenting on the merits thereof, the present petition is disposed of with direction to respondent No.3 to consider and decide the representation dated 12.05.2026 (Annexure P.1) as expeditiously as possible, preferably within a period of four weeks, in accordance with law.
