The present writ petition under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India has been filed seeking appropriate directions to the official respondents to protect the life and liberty of the petitioner and his family members from threats, intimidation and harassment allegedly caused by the private respondents, and to take action against them for circulating defamatory and derogatory content on social media platforms, including Instagram, as well as to restrain them from falsely implicating or harassing the petitioner and his wife.

Learned counsel for the petitioner has submitted that for redressal of his grievance, the petitioner has already filed representation dated 15.05.2026 (Annexure P-2) before the Director General of Police, Punjab and the Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, however, no action has been taken on the same till date.

On the asking of the Court, Mr. Sahil Chowdhary, AAG, Punjab, accepts notice on behalf of the respondent-State. 5.

Without commenting upon the merits of the case and in view of the submission made by learned counsel for the petitioner, the present petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2-Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, to decide the representation dated 15.05.2026 (Annexure P-2) filed by the petitioner, qua threat perception in accordance with law within a period of one month from today and grant immediate protection, if any threat to the life and liberty of the petitioner, is perceived. 6.

It is being clarified that this order shall not be taken to grant immunity to the petitioner for legal action for violation of law, if any, committed by him.
