IN THE HIGH COURT OF PUNJAB AND HARYANA AT

CHANDIGARH CRM-M-28947-2026 Date of Decision: 26.05.2026 MANPREET SINGH @ DITTU ... PETITIONER

VERSUS

STATE OF PUNJAB ...RESPONDENT CORAM: HON'BLE MR. JUSTICE JASJIT SINGH BEDI

Present:

Mr. Gurnoor Singh Sethi, Advocate for the petitioner. Mr. Rishabh Singla, AAG, Punjab.

Mr. Akun Sheemar, Advocate for the complainant. **** JASJIT SINGH BEDI, J.

The prayer in the present petition under Section 483 BNSS is for the grant of regular bail in case bearing FIR No.51 dated 13.03.2026 registered under Sections 109, 125 of BNS and Sections 25, 27 of Arms Act, at Police Station Sultanwind, District Police Commissionerate, Amritsar. 2.

The learned counsel for the petitioner contends that the petitioner happens to be the brother-in-law of the complainant/Gurpreet Kaur and the uncle of the injured/Lovepreet Singh. The occurrence has taken place on account of celebratory firing. A compromise has been arrived at between the parties. As the petitioner is in custody since 14.03.2026 but the challan has not yet been filed, the Trial of the present case is not likely to be concluded anytime soon and therefore, he is entitled to the concession of bail.

4.

The learned counsel for the State, on the other hand, contends that serious allegations have been leveled against the petitioner, and KUSUM 2026.05.27 10:27 I attest to the accuracy and integrity of this document PHHC Chandigarh

CRM-M-28947-2026 therefore, he does not deserve any sympathy. He, however, concedes that the petitioner is in custody since 14.03.2026 and that the challan has not yet been filed.

5.

The learned counsel for the complainant does not dispute the factual assertion that the parties are closely related and that a compromise has been arrived at between the parties. He states that he has no objection, if the petitioner is granted the concession of bail. 6.

I have heard the learned counsel for the parties. 7.

Admittedly, the occurrence has taken place on account of celebratory firing. The parties are closely related to each other and have also effected a settlement. As the petitioner is in custody since 14.03.2026 but the challan has not yet been filed, the Trial of the present case is not likely to be concluded anytime soon. In this situation, the further incarceration of the petitioner is not required.

8.

Thus, without commenting upon the merits of the case, the present petition is allowed and the petitioner, namely, Manpreet Singh @ Dittu S/o Ameet Singh is ordered to be released on bail to the satisfaction of the Trial Court/Duty Magistrate concerned upon furnishing fresh bail bonds/surety bonds.

9.

The petition stands disposed of.
