The petitioners have approached this Court under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India, seeking a writ of mandamus directing respondent No.3 to issue notification for conducting the elections for the vacant post of Sarpanch in the village Shaheed Udham Singh Wala, Tehsil Guruharsahai, District Ferozepur.

Learned counsel for the petitioners states that in pursuance to the order passed by this Court in Civil Writ Petition No.14332 of 2016 titled as 'Sukhwinder Pal Singh and others vs. State of Punjab and others' on 22.07.2016, the petitioner had filed a representation dated 26.07.2016 (Annexure P-8) to respondent No.3-State Election Commissioner, Punjab but till date, no decision has so far been taken thereon. Civil Writ Petition No.20682 of 2016 -2- ----- a direction be issued to respondent No.3 to decide the aforesaid representation expeditiously in a time bound manner in accordance with law.

After hearing learned counsel for the petitioner, perusing the present petition and without expressing any opinion on the merits of the case, we dispose of the present petition by directing respondent No.3 to take a decision on the representation dated 26.07.2016 filed by the petitioner (Annexure P-8), in accordance with law by passing a speaking order and after affording an opportunity of hearing to him within a period of one month from the date of receipt of certified copy of this order.
