G.S.SANDHAWALIA, J. (Oral) The petitioner seeks direction for allotting seniority number and to enter the name in the seniority list of Junior Engineers (Mechanical) prepared for the year 2012 at the appropriate serial number. Subsequent promotion to the post of Sub Divisional Engineer with all consequential benefits from the date the juniors were promoted has also been sought. It is the case of the petitioner that he was appointed on 30.10.1980 and is currently working as Additional Assistant Engineer. As per the seniority list (Anneuxre P-1), his name was shown at Sr. No. 361. Persons who were shown junior in the said list at Sr. Nos. 363, 364 and 365 namely Surat Chand, Baldev Singh and Naresh Chander were promoted as per the seniority list of 2012 (Annexure P-4). The petitioner had served a legal notice dated 20.07.
2015 (Annexure P-6) bringing to the notice of the respondents his grouse which remains unanswered in spite of the fact that respondent no. 1 had asked respondent no. 2 to take prompt action on 04.09.2015 (Annexure P-7) on the legal notice. Thereafter, the petitioner's SHIVANI GUPTA 2016.02.
CWP No. 2117 of 2016 service book has been sent back on 15.09.2015 (Annexure P-8) on the ground that regular entry and his new serial number be told to the employee. Respondent no. 3 has replied to the said communication on 30.10.2015 (Annexure P-9) and sent the service book but no further action has been taken.

Mr. R.S. Sidhu, AAG, Punjab accepts notice on behalf of the respondents. Copy of the writ petition has been supplied to him in Court. Keeping in view the limited relief sought, this Court is of the opinion that there is no need for the respondents to file reply. Accordingly, without commenting on the merits of the case this writ petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent no. 2 to decide the legal notice dated 20.07.2015 (Annexure P-6) within a period of 3 months from the date of receipt of certified copy of the order by passing a speaking order redressing the grievance of the petitioner regarding fixing of his seniority and his promotion. Needless to say if the relief is to be denied, a reasoned order be passed and conveyed to the petitioner. 03.02.2016 (G.S.
